Etymology: < ancient Greek πλεονεκτικός disposed to take too much, greedy < πλεονέκτης a person who has or claims more than his or her share ( < πλέον (also πλεῖον ) more (see pleio- comb. form) + ἔχειν to have (see Hector n.) + -της , suffix forming agent nouns) + -ικός -ic suffix.R. G. Mayne (see quot. 1858) gives also a Latin form pleonecticus.

Excessively covetous, avaricious, or greedy; characterized by or subject to pleonexia.
