Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin poliosis.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin poliosis (1713 (in B. Castelli Lexicon Medicum) or earlier) < ancient Greek πολιός grey (related to πελιός dark bluish grey: see peliosis n.) + post-classical Latin -osis -osis suffix.
Medicine.
Partial or general greyness or whiteness of the hair, esp. if premature; spec. the presence of a circumscribed area of white hair in the scalp (a white forelock).
