Etymology: < classical Latin populus people n. + -icide comb. form1, perhaps after French †populicide (1796 or earlier, rare). Compare French populicide (adjective) harmful to the people (1792 or earlier, now rare).
Now rare.
The systematic killing of a people or nation.
