单词 beasten
释义

beastenadj.

Forms: Middle English besten, Middle English bestene, Middle English bestyn, 1800s beasten.
Origin: Probably formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: beast n., -en suffix4.
Etymology: Probably < beast n. + -en suffix4.It has been suggested that bestene in quot. a1387 may rather show the genitive plural of beast n.; however, the occurrence of several parallel adjectival formations in this text favours the etymology offered here. (Compare etymological note at witching adj.)
Obsolete (archaic and rare after Middle English).
Of a beast or beasts; animal. In quot. 1834 apparently a deliberate archaism.
