Etymology: < French populosité (a1525 in Middle French; now rare) and its etymon post-classical Latin populositas large number, crowd (early 4th cent.), populousness (from 12th cent. in British sources) < classical Latin populōsus populous adj. + -tās (see -ty suffix1; compare -ity suffix). Compare slightly earlier populousness n.
