plumachn.

Brit. /pluːˈmaʃ/, U.S. /pluˈmæʃ/, Scottish English /pluˈmaʃ/
Forms: late Middle English–1600s plumash, 1600s plumach, 1600s plummach; Scottish pre-1700 plomash, pre-1700 1700s plumash, 1800s– plumach, 1900s– plumashe.
Origin: Probably a borrowing from French. Etymon: French plumas.
Etymology: Probably originally < Middle French plumas plumasse n., and hence a doublet of plumasse n.; compare other French loans ending in -ash (e.g. quash v.), and compare also verbs in -ish suffix2 . In later use perhaps influenced by French (now regional (south-eastern France, western Switzerland)) plumache a plume or bunch of feathers (1576 in Middle French) < Italian piumaccio (a1342; now regional) < post-classical Latin plumacium (see plumaciol n.).
Chiefly Scottish in later use.
