Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin plūmātus.
Etymology: < classical Latin plūmātus, past participle of plūmāre to cover with feathers (see plume v.). Compare earlier plumeous adj., plumose adj., plumous adj. N.E.D. (1907) gives only the pronunciation (plū·mĕt) /ˈpluːmət/.
Chiefly Biology.
Resembling a feather; feathery, plumose.
