Origin: Formed within English, by derivation; probably modelled on a French lexical item. Etymons: porphyry n., -ize suffix.
Etymology: < porphyry n. + -ize suffix, probably after French porphyriser (1728). Compare ancient Greek πορϕυρίζειν to be purplish.
Now rare.
