Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin poplitea.
Etymology: Irregularly < post-classical Latin poplitea (1638 or earlier, usually in poplitea vena popliteal vein), feminine of popliteus (see popliteus n.), with omission of the ending. Compare French poplité (1575 in Middle French). Compare earlier poplitic adj., poplitical adj.
