1925 W. India Comm. Circular 22 Oct. 429/2 The second report deals with the occurrence of Palladium-Mercuride, a mineral new to science in British Guiana. Up to the present it has only been found in certain diamond-bearing gravels on the Potaro river; and so it was named ‘Potarite’.

1928 Mineral. Mag. 21 397 He [sc. Sir John Harrison] proposed the name potarite (letter of April 3, 1925), but he did not himself record this name in print.

1960 Amer. Mineralogist 45 1094 Samples of PdHg which are identical with the mineral potarite may be prepared either by displacement of palladium from Pd(NO₃)₂ solution by mercury or by direct synthesis from powdered palladium and mercury in sealed evacuated tubes.

1968 I. Kostov Mineral. ii. i. 95 Mercury group... Gold amalgam..and potarite (PdHg, tetragonal) with about 35% Pd, are rare representatives of the group.

2002 Canad. Mineralogist 40 341 Auriferous potarite ranges in composition from ∼Pd₃Hg₂ to near Pd(Hg,Au).
