Origin: From a proper name, combined with an English element. Etymons: proper name Powell , -ized suffix.
Etymology: < the name of William Powell, of Liverpool (probably born 1844), who invented the process + -ized suffix. Compare later Powellize v.
Now rare.
Of timber: treated by boiling in a solution of sugar so as to preserve it and reduce shrinkage.
