Any member of the large genus Potyvirus or family Potyviridae of non-enveloped, single-stranded RNA viruses with flexuous filamentous particles, which are pathogens of numerous plant species, causing economically significant diseases, esp. mosaics, mottles, and yellows, and are usually transmitted by aphids.
