Etymology: < post-classical Latin prasocorid-, prasocoris (5th cent. in Palladius) < ancient Greek πρασοκουριδ- , πρασοκουρίς < πράσον leek (see prasine n. and adj.) + κείρειν to cut, shear (see corm n.²).Theophrastus reports that the πρασοκουρίς ate lettuces and leeks, Aristotle that it had wings. On the basis of these testimonies the insect has been variously identified with the mole-cricket, Gryllotalpa gryllotalpa, and with the caterpillar of the leek moth, Acrolepiosis assectella.

Obsolete. rare.
