Etymology: < post-classical Latin praefidentia overconfidence (5th cent. in Augustine) < classical Latin praefīdent- , praefīdēns prefident adj. + ia -ia suffix1: see -ence suffix. Compare earlier confidence n. and diffidence n., and later prefident adj.
Obsolete.
Overconfidence; (occasionally) an overconfident action.
