Origin: A borrowing from Greek. Etymon: Greek ψυχαγωγικός.
Etymology: < ancient Greek ψυχαγωγικός attractive to the mind, persuasive < ψυχαγωγία winning of the mind, persuasion ( < ψυχαγωγός (see psychagogue n.) + -ία -ia suffix1) + -ικός -ic suffix. Compare French psychagogique (1803). With sense 2 compare earlier psychagogue n. 3. Compare earlier psychagogical adj. N.E.D. (1909) also gives the partial pronunciation (ps-) /ps-/ for this entry and related words.
