Etymology: < classical Latin pulchr-, pulcher beautiful (see pulchrous adj.) + -ify suffix. Compare post-classical Latin pulchrificare to beautify, embellish (7th cent.; frequently 1236–1427 in British sources). Compare earlier pulchritude n.

transitive. In humorous or ironic use: to beautify, adorn, embellish. Also intransitive: to beautify oneself.
