Etymology: Alteration of psalloid adj., due to an assumed derivation from ancient Greek ψαλιδ- , ψαλίς pair of shears, also a vault (see psalidodect adj.), corresponding to classical Latin fornix (see fornix n.). R. G. Mayne (see quot. 1858) gives also a Latin form psaloides.

Anatomy. Obsolete. rare. Apparently only attested in dictionaries or glossaries.

Shaped like an arch; spec. designating the commissure of the fornix of the brain (cf. psalloid adj.).
