Etymology: < dis- prefix + -cubation (in accubation n.).A Latin form *discubatio is apparently not attested (although compare post-classical Latin discubare to recline at meals (15th cent. in Dutch glossarial sources)). Compare post-classical Latin discubitio (Vetus Latina) < classical Latin discumbere discumb v.; compare classical Latin cubātio cubation n.1, post-classical Latin accubatio accubation n.
Obsolete.
The action or practice of reclining at a table when dining.Used in discussions of the dining practices of the ancient Jews.
