Etymology: < post-classical Latin putrilagin-, putrilago rottenness, putrefaction (6th cent. or earlier) < classical Latin putri- , puter rotten (see putrid adj.) + -ilāgō (in e.g. salsilāgō brine, saltiness). Compare earlier putrilaginous adj. N.E.D. (1909) gives the pronunciation as (piū·trilėdʒ) /ˈpjuːtrɪlɪdʒ/.
Obsolete.
