Etymology: < classical Latin puls-, past participial stem of pellere to drive (see pulse v.) + -ellum suffix, after flagellum n. Compare tractellum n.
Biology. Now rare.
A flagellum, esp. one that propels a cell from behind. Cf. tractellum n.
