Origin: A borrowing from Italian. Etymons: Italian punta, riversa.
Etymology: < Italian punta point (see punta n.2) + riversa, feminine of riverso reversed ( < classical Latin reversus reverse adj.). Compare punta dritta n.The phrase is apparently not recorded in dictionaries of Italian.
Fencing. Now historical.
A thrust made with the point of the sword and typically delivered from the executant's left side with the palm up. Cf. punta dritta n.
