1818 Ann. Philos. 12 312 Pyrgom.—By this name, Werner distinguishes the mineral found in the valley of Fassa, and to which the name of fassaïte had already been given by the Italian mineralogists. In its crystallization, its structure, and other essential characters, it perfectly agrees with augite (pyroxène of Haüy).
1868 J. D. Dana Syst. Mineral. (ed. 5) 216 Fassaite (or pyrgom). Includes the green kinds found in metamorphic rocks.
