Etymology: < classical Latin quantum valeat as much as it may be worth < quantum which amount (see quantum n.) + valeat , 3rd singular present subjunctive of valēre to be worth (see valent adj.).

Chiefly Law. Now rare.

For what it is worth; with the understanding that the value or credibility of the statement, testimony, or piece of evidence under discussion may be diminished in consideration of mitigating factors.
