1954 L. L. Beranek Acoustics i. 11 The specific acoustic impedance is the complex ratio of the effective sound pressure at a point of an acoustic medium or mechanical device to the effective particle velocity at that point. The unit is newton-sec/m3, or the mks rayl. (In the cgs system the unit is dyne-sec/cm3, or the rayl.)
1983 Rev. Sci. Instruments 54 597 A prototype instrument can measure airflow resistivities in the range 10–5000 cgs rayl/cm.
1996 A. Mornington-West in J. Borwick Sound Recording Pract. (ed. 4) ii. 31 If we consider SPL [= sound pressure level] to be analogous to voltage and the resultant particle velocity analogous to current, then it is understandable that there will also be acoustic impedance (the impedance of air is around 415 rayls).
