Origin: From a proper name, combined with an English element; modelled on a French lexical item. Etymons: proper name Ramus , -ism suffix.
Etymology: < the name of Petrus Ramus (see Ramist n. and adj.) + -ism suffix, after French ramisme (1697 in the passage translated in quot. 1710). Compare earlier Ramistry n.
Philosophy.
A philosophical system developed by Ramus, based on a controversial revised version of Aristotelian logic.
