Origin: A borrowing from Spanish. Etymon: Spanish ranchito.
Etymology: < Mexican Spanish ranchito small ranch or farm (1818 or earlier; 1661 in sense ‘estate which has a steward’) < rancho rancho n. + -ito -et suffix1.The form ranchita is not paralleled in Spanish, and apparently shows a misapprehension of the Spanish etymon.
In the western United States: a small ranch or farm.
