单词 recado
释义

recadon.

Brit. /rɪˈkɑːdəʊ/, /rɛˈkɑːdəʊ/, U.S. /rɪˈkɑdoʊ/, /rɛˈkɑdoʊ/
Forms: 1600s recarder, 1600s recaudo, 1600s 1800s– recado.
Origin: A borrowing from Spanish. Etymons: Spanish recado; Spanish recado de montar.
Etymology: In sense 1 < Spanish recado message, errand, gift (1237; earlier as recapdo (1074), recabdo (1184): see below). In sense 2 shortened < South American Spanish recado de montar riding equipment, riding set (1780 in Argentina; < recado + de of + montar : see mount v.); compare South American Spanish recado saddle (c1840 in Argentina). Compare Portuguese recado message, errand, gift (1154).Spanish recado is < recadar (although this is first attested later: 1274), variant of recaudar to collect (c1196 as recabdar ) < an unattested post-classical Latin form *recapitare , probably an alteration (after classical Latin capitālis capital adj. and perhaps other derivatives of caput caput n.) of classical Latin receptāre reset v.1 (in post-classical Latin also recaptare (11th cent.)). Post-classical Latin recapitare is in fact recorded in an isolated attestation in a Spanish source (8th cent.), but only in the sense in the sense ‘to halt (one's steps)’.
1. Chiefly in Spanish-speaking contexts: a present; a message of goodwill. Obsolete.
