Etymology: < classical Latin reconciliātor reconciler < reconciliāt- , past participial stem of reconciliāre reconcile v. + -or -or suffix. Compare Middle French reconciliateur , French réconciliateur (c1355 in a translation of Livy; a1460 with reference to Christ, who reconciles sinners with God), Italian riconciliatore (1304, originally in sense ‘priest as mediator between the faithful and God’). Compare earlier reconciler n.
