Etymology: < Anglo-Norman and Middle French refroider, refroidir, Middle French refroidier (French refroidir ) to chill (a substance) (second half of the 12th cent. in Old French), to become cold (c1160), to cool (anger) (a1393) < re- re- prefix + froid cold (c1100; < classical Latin frīgidus frigid adj.). Compare refreid v.
