1960 New Scientist 14 July 104/1 Resilin is a protein of a new kind in which the protein chains are cross-linked by means of bonds of a new sort which are resistant to tryptic digestion.
1961 K. Bailey & T. Weis-Fogh in Biochimica et Biophysica Acta 48 453 We therefore propose to name it resilin, derived from the Latin resilire, i.e. to spring back (pronounced rez'ilin). (We are indebted to Professor D. S. Robertson, Cambridge, who suggested the name.)
1970 Nature 26 Dec. 1338/1 Resilin is a significant structural component of the sucking pump in many different insects.
1988 National Geographic May 675/2 (caption) The mechanics of jumping hinge on a superelastic protein known as resilin..located in the thorax above the insect's hind legs.
2006 Sci. Amer. (U.K. ed.) Feb. 11/1 Elastin and resilin share a common structural arrangement that accounts for their rubbery properties—each contains randomly coiled amino acid chains tied together at intervals with molecular cross-links.
