1693 J. Evelyn tr. J. de La Quintinie Compl. Gard'ner ii. vi. ii. 145 Reponces, or Field Radishes, are multiplied only by Seed, and are a sort of little Radishes that are eaten in Sallats, and grow without any pains in the Fields.
1704 Dict. Rusticum Reponses, or wild Radishes; are propagated only by Seeds.
1706 Phillips's New World of Words (new ed.) Reponces, (Fr.) a sort of small wild Radishes, that grow naturally in the Fields, and are eaten in Sallets.
