Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French revanchard.
Etymology: < French revanchard (1883 or earlier as noun, 1890 or earlier as adjective) < revanche revanche n. + -ard -ard suffix. Compare earlier revanchist n. and later revanchist adj.Perhaps never fully naturalized in English. O.E.D. Suppl. (1982) only records the non-naturalized pronunciation as (rəvaṅʃāɹ) /rəvɑ̃ʃar/.
