单词 rhoicissus
释义

rhoicissusn.

Brit. /ˌrəʊᵻˈsɪsəs/, U.S. /ˌroʊəˈsɪsəs/
Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin Rhoicissus.
Etymology: < scientific Latin Rhoicissus (J. E. Planchon 1887, in Ampelidæ, in A. de Candolle and C. de Candolle Monographiæ Phanerogamarum V. ii. 463), probably < ancient Greek ῥοῦς sumac (see rhus n.) + scientific Latin Cissus, genus name (Linnaeus Species plantarum (1753) 117; < ancient Greek κισσός (Attic κιττός) ivy (of unknown origin)), probably so called on account of the resemblance of certain species to a sumac.
Any plant of the genus Rhoicissus (family Vitaceae), comprising South African climbing shrubs with simple or palmately lobed leaves, several of which are grown as house plants; (in form Rhoicissus) the genus itself. Also called grape ivy.
