Compare rippock n.Compare earlier Scots regional (St Kilda) †reddag kind of gull, which apparently shows transmission via Scottish Gaelic of the same Scandinavian word (compare Scottish Gaelic -ag , diminutive suffix: see -ock suffix):1698 M. Martin Late Voy. St. Kilda 63 The Third sort is a White Mall, less than a Tame Duck; the Inhabitants call it Reddag. Compare also (with different suffixation) 20th-cent. Orkney Scots ritto, in the same sense.
