Etymology: < the name of the River Roding, South Island, New Zealand, where such rocks are found (compare quot. 1911) + -ite suffix1.
Geology.
A coarse-grained crystalline rock consisting of augite and grossularite (or hydrogrossularite), often with prehnite and chlorite, and typically found in dykes in or adjacent to serpentinite masses, having been formed by the calcium metasomatism of basic or ultrabasic igneous rocks.
