Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin rubor.
Etymology: < classical Latin rubor redness, blush < rubēre to be red (see rubent adj.) + -or -or suffix. Compare Spanish rubor (end of the 15th cent.), Italian (now literary or archaic) rubore (a1311).
Now chiefly Medicine.
Redness, esp. of the skin; ruddiness of the complexion; an instance of this. Also: redness as one of the signs of inflammation.
