Origin: Of uncertain origin. Perhaps a borrowing from German. Perhaps a borrowing from Yiddish. Etymons: German Reibach; Yiddish reybakh.
Etymology: Origin uncertain. Perhaps < German Reibach or its etymon Western Yiddish reybakh, rebakh profit (see Rybeck n.), although if so, the semantic development is difficult to account for. Compare slightly earlier Rybeck n.In forms in -buck perhaps by association with buck n.8
