单词 satinette
释义

satinetteadj.n.

Brit. /ˌsatᵻˈnɛt/, U.S. /ˌsætnˈɛt/
Forms: 1700s satenet, 1700s sattinet, 1700s– satinet (now the usual form in sense B. 1b), 1700s– satinette.
Origin: Probably a borrowing from French. Etymon: French satinette.
Etymology: Probably < French satinette light fabric similar to satin (1703; rare before the late 19th cent.; < satin satin n. + -ette : see -et suffix1), although it has been suggested that the French word may instead be a borrowing of the contemporaneous English word. With sense B. 1a compare satinade n. Sense B. 2 appears to show a semantic development within English; French satinette is apparently not attested in this sense until later (1887 or earlier). The form satinet is apparently not attested in French until considerably later (first half of the 19th cent.).
A. adj.
Made of or covered with satinette (in senses B. 1a and B. 1b).
