Etymology: < sea n. + lung n., translating Latin pulmo marinus, Greek πλεύμων θαλάσσιος, said to be so called from the alternate contraction and expansion, as if breathing. Compare Spanish pulmon marino, ‘a bright Froth in the Sea that shines’ (Stevens. 1706).
