Etymology: < self- prefix + isolate v., after self-isolation n. Compare earlier self-isolated adj., self-isolating adj., self-isolation n.
intransitive. To isolate oneself from others deliberately; (now) esp. to undertake self-imposed isolation for a period of time, typically in one’s own home, in order to avoid catching or transmitting an infectious disease, or as one of a number of public health measures designed to inhibit its spread. Also transitive (reflexive). Cf. self-quarantine v.
