rare (chiefly depreciative).
Characterized by (esp. affected or shallow) sentimentality; mawkishly sentimental. Cf. sensibility n. 4b.Before the second half of the 20th cent. apparently only in Byron, and subsequently chiefly used in discussions of 18th- and 19th-cent. literature and society.
