Etymology: Partly < classical Latin septuāgēsimus seventieth (see Septuagesima n.) + -al suffix1, and partly < Septuagesima n. + -al suffix1.In sense 1b after septuagenarian n. With sense 2 compare post-classical Latin septuagesimalis (from 10th cent. in British sources; from 12th cent. in continental sources; rare).
