Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French septuor.
Etymology: < French septuor piece of music for seven voices or instruments (1803 or earlier) < sept seven (see sept et le va n.) + -uor (in quatuor quatuor n.). Compare earlier quatuor n., sextuor n.Compare German Septuor (1805 or earlier).
Music. Now rare.
A composition for seven voices or instruments; = septet n. 1a.
