Origin: A borrowing from Yiddish. Etymon: Yiddish sheygets.
Etymology: < Yiddish sheygets, sheykets < Hebrew šeqeṣ abomination, detestation, detestable thing. Compare earlier shiksa n.In plural forms in -im after the Yiddish plural form shkotsim, itself (with Ashkenazic pronunciation of the a in the second syllable) after the Hebrew plural form šĕqaṣīm . The form shkotz shows a back-formation from the plural form shkotzim.
Chiefly derogatory (originally and chiefly U.S.).
In Jewish usage: a non-Jewish boy or man; a male gentile. Cf. shiksa n.Sometimes also applied to a Jewish boy or man who does not observe important Jewish practices.
