Origin: Probably of multiple origins. Probably partly formed within English, by derivation. Probably partly a borrowing from French. Etymons: aboard v., -age suffix; French abordage.
Etymology: Probably partly < aboard v. + -age suffix, and partly < Middle French, French abordage (of a ship) action of entering a port (1553), attack on a ship during battle (1660), collision of two ships (1687) < aborder aboard v. + -age -age suffix.
Obsolete. rare.
An attack on a ship, in which it is boarded.
