Perhaps compare also earlier slubberdegullion n., slabberdegullion n. (both used of people regarded as despicable or disgusting).

Whaling slang (chiefly U.S.). Now disused.

Fibrous or membranous detritus produced during the extraction of sperm whale oil. Cf. gurry n.⁴ 1, slumgullion n. 2a.In quot. 1922 apparently in extended use indicating a poor foodstuff; cf. slumgullion n. 2c.
