释义 | social democratn.adj. A. n. An advocate or supporter of social democracy; spec. a member of a political party that advocates social democracy.Frequently in the names of political parties. Many of these parties followed revolutionary communist principles, reflecting the Russian Social Democratic Workers' Party. After the ideological split within this party (see Menshevik n.) the term was mostly used to designate parties that pursued the achievement of socialist government through democratic means. In modern use most social democrats have abandoned any commitment to Marxism, and tend to be liberal democratic parties that retain a commitment to social reform.
