Etymology: < blue adj. + skin n.In sense 3 apparently with reference to the alleged grave demeanour of such people, although compare bluenose n. 3 and earlier true blue adj. 2.
North American slang.
1. An ardent supporter of the American cause during the War of Independence (1775–83). Obsolete. rare.
