Origin: A borrowing from Hungarian. Etymon: Hungarian suba.
Etymology: < Hungarian suba /ʃubɔ/, ultimately < Arabic jubba jubbah n.The immediate source of the Hungarian word is unclear; compare ( < the same ultimate etymon) Italian giubba (see jupe n.), Middle High German schūbe kind of long, wide overcoat (German Schaube , now historical and rare), Russian šuba (see shuba n.), Serbian and Croatian šuba ‘fur-coat’, and similar forms in other Slavonic languages.
A type of long sheepskin cloak worn by Hungarian shepherds.
