单词 subtilization
释义

subtilizationn.

Brit. /ˌsʌtl̩ʌɪˈzeɪʃn/, /ˌsʌbtl̩ʌɪˈzeɪʃn/, U.S. /ˌsədləˈzeɪʃən/, /ˌsəbtlˌaɪˈzeɪʃən/
Forms: see subtilize v. and -ation suffix.
Origin: Formed within English, by derivation; originally partly modelled on a French lexical item, and probably partly modelled on a Latin lexical item. Etymons: subtilize v., -ation suffix.
Etymology: < subtilize v. + -ation suffix, originally after French subtilisation sublimation, rarefaction (1572 in Middle French; 1566 in sense ‘sublimity, subtlety’; < subtiliser subtilize v. + -ation ) and probably also post-classical Latin subtilization-, subtilizatio sublimation or rarefaction of a substance (1583 or earlier; < subtilizat- , past participial stem of subtilizare subtilize v. + classical Latin -iō -ion suffix1). Compare Italian †sottigliazione (1589 as †suttigliazione ), Spanish sutilización (1620 as †subtilización ). Compare earlier subtilizing n. N.E.D. (1915) also gives the pronunciation (sɒ:btiləizēi·ʃən) /ˌsʌbtɪlaɪˈzeɪʃən/.
